Ah, the first date. It’s the occasion that gets those palms sweating and those stomach nerves jittering. How could one simple event cause so much anxiety? Well, if you and your date hit it off, you could be on your way to a wonderful romance. Make a bad impression and you can just say goodbye. Last week, we asked the fans of Are You Interested? a simple question: “Should a guy pay for the first date? Why?” Here are some answers that stood out:
Robert A.: A guy should ALWAYS pay for ALL his dates. That is part of being a true man and gentleman.
Zachare S: I never let my wife pay, never did, and never will. If I can’t pay to take her out, how can I provide for my family? A man always pays if he really likes her, and even if he doesn’t … it’s just polite.
Andrew T.: Yes, the first date is very important that she can count on security money wise.
Sanet B.: The guy should, at least, pay the first date, and IF they make it to the second date, they can negotiate. To be honest, I won’t go on a second date if he did not pay. Only a gentleman would do the honorable thing.
Jordan R: Women have been fighting for equality for the last 200 years. They can pay for themselves.
Taina B.: The price of women’s liberty is that both should pay.
George K.: I’ll have a burger with fries please!
We had a whopping 350 answers and most of you agreed that the man should indeed pay for the first date. A few users strongly disagreed – after all, women are equal now. They have jobs, are making their own money, and shouldn’t expect a man to pay for her dinner. Why should the man feel obligated to reach for the check when it arrives while she sits there?
It all comes down to the same question that we’ve been asking you: Are you interested? Did you enjoy her company? Did you enjoy your date? Do you want to see her again? Most of the users who answered believe that a “true gentlemen” would pay because it’s a gesture – she is worth it. It’s also a bit pre-programmed into our genes. Humans look for the best potential match in a mate, someone who can provide and care for them. Many of our female users mentioned that if he can’t provide for a simple meal, how can he provide for other things in the future?
If you’d like, you are more than welcome to follow the advice of our intuitive fans: Guys, if you’re interested in her, suck it up and pay for that first date. Some of our fans believe that it’ll show her that you really like her and want to see her again… and it’ll make her want to see YOU again. (If you have a great girl, she will offer to split the bill or take turns – not every female will just sit there and let you pay every time!) A first date is your chance to make the best impression, so don’t let something as trivial as the check ruin your evening! So what’re you waiting for? Check out Are You Interested? and get started on getting that first date!
